Lots of people tell me after they hear about the penny story that they keep their spare change in a jar and once in a while do something with it. If you’re looking for an idea about what to do with that change let me suggest you give it away. You don’t have to of course, but if it really is “spare change” maybe you can spare it.
I wouldn’t go out on a limb and support a charity unless I felt good about how they handle the resources given to them. This is a value judgment, of course, but it’s my blog so I get to do that!
If you’re looking for an organization that would take full advantage of every bit of change you can spare let me suggest the following. I’ve worked with all three and can wholeheartedly stand behind what they do. Any funds raised locally stay local with each organization.
KIDS
Young Life: Young Life is relational ministry.
Area leaders get to know teenagers for who they are and with Christ-like love and concern for them as individuals. This is accomplished through Contact Work, Club, Campaigners, and Camp. Contact work is living life with kids and participating in the things that they enjoy. Club is a weekly meeting where teenagers come and have fun, hang out, meet new people and hear about Jesus in terms they can understand. Campaigners is Bible Study. Camp is the experience of a lifetime for kids.
